Description

The tour to the Floating Islands of the Uros and Amantani offers an immersion into the traditional life of Lake Titicaca. On the Uros Islands, you will see the islands built of totora reeds and learn about the customs of this ancient people. Then, the journey continues to Amantani, an island where the inhabitants preserve their ancestral traditions, including typical dress and local ceremonies. In addition, you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and panoramic views of the lake during the tour. It is a unique experience that connects living culture and nature.

Taquile Island, famous for its landscapes and textiles declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, offers an authentic experience. Its inhabitants maintain a living culture, and from its summit you get breathtaking views of the lake and the Andes. Both destinations combine history, culture and nature in a unique setting.

Book Puno Classic Tour – Visit Uros Floating Islands & Taquile

  • After your delicious breakfast at the hotel, between 7:40 to 7:50 AM we will go to your hotel to pick you up and take you to the port of embarkation. 8:00 AM our excursion begins in a boat heading to the famous floating islands of the Uros to learn about the traditional way of life.
  • These islands are inhabited by the Uros people, one of the oldest cultures of the continent which dates back to times before the Incas.
  • The subsistence of the Uros community is based on fishing and hunting, handicrafts; they are dedicated to weaving wool tapestries and stuffing animals.
  • After having this experience, our trip continues for about 3 hours to the island of Amantani.
  • At approximately 1:30 PM we will arrive at the port of the island of Amantani where the family that will host us will be waiting to welcome us and take us to their home.
  • Once accommodated in the lodge we will have a typical lunch at the family’s house.
  • At 4:00 PM we will start a hike to the highest point of the island. This is the ceremonial center called “Pachatata”. From this point we will appreciate the whole panorama of Lake Titicaca and enjoy the sunset or the magical Andean sunset.
  • Then we return to the lodge to share the dinner scheduled for 7:00 PM.
  • Families often organize a “peña”, a small celebration with Andean music and dance to which you will be invited and if you feel like participating, you will surely have a great time!

  • We have breakfast scheduled for 7:00 AM then we head to the port, 8:00 AM is the departure to continue to the island of Taquile which will take us 1 hour trip.
  • At 09:00 AM we arrive to Taquile by a secondary port of the island, from where we go up a gentle slope that takes us to the main village of the island.
  • From the port we will have a 35 minute walk up to the square of Taquile and we will have a reception with traditional dance and music.
  • The island is surrounded by many agricultural terraces, has more than 2500 inhabitants who are engaged in the production of handicrafts, the textile art of Taquile is considered one of the oldest craft traditions of Peru and its importance has been recognized by UNESCO included in the list of
  • Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
  • Everyone participates, men, women and children from an early age. The women are in charge of spinning the wool and the men of weaving.
  • You will have free time to get to know more about the place, have a wonderful
  • Visit to share experiences with the families and taste a typical lunch. Then we go down the stairs of 538 steps that are the main access.
  • Finally, we return to take our boat to Puno, arriving at 3:30 PM approximately.
